The Morrigan

The Morrigan is the Celt goddess of war and strife, one of the original Tautha De Danann tribe of immortals who defeated the Fir Bolg after arriving in Britain in great flying ships. A dark and often heartless goddess, her ravens circle the battlefield while she enflames battle-lust on whichever side she favors.

Excalibur is the magical sword bestowed on King Arthur by the Lady of the Lake whose edge none could resist, and whose scabbard, when laid upon a wound, could heal.

In this scene, the Lady of the Lake offers the sword of kings to Arthur while he is bathing in the lake. He does not waste time accepting this magical gift. In the background, the apple-tree cloaked isle of Avalon appears from the mist. When Arthur dies some years from now, his body will be borne here by many queens.

It is said he will rise one day when Britain is in its greatest need.

Lord Winter

Something for the holidays. It's a concept character piece for my upcoming graphic novel.

The model is my friend Darko Ranogajec from Zurich.

Merry Yule!
