Morgoth and Ungoliant

Model: Bobby Momenteller

Morgoth is wrapped in shadow and the web of his ravenous and increasingly belligerent "ally", the great spider Ungoliant. She, having drained the silvery tree of Telperion, now drains the light from the golden tree Laurelin. Together, the two will plunge Aman and Middle Earth into darkness.

A fruit will survive both trees - from them will be made the sun and the moon.

From "The Silmarillion" by J.R.R. Tolkien.

I used different techniques for this work, which is likely my last for 2010. Next year I intend to be more experimental in both technique and subject.

The model in this piece is the very talented Bobby Momenteller. I look forward to shooting him in studio early next year.

  3. I like how scarily beautiful Melkor looks, it's chilling. I don't think many people consider how perfect evil can be perfectly beautiful until it snaps it's fangs into your head. Marvelous.
